Manchester United soccer club will hold a youth Skills and Drills Clinic July 24, at Park University’s Julian Field, in advance of the club’s July 25 match against the Kansas City Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium.
The clinic will be conducted by Manchester United coaches with assistance from Park University men’s and women’s soccer players, with 48 youth participants from around the Kansas City metropolitan area taking part in the event.
Open to the media and public, the clinic will get underway at 3 p.m., ending at 6 p.m., and Julian Field facilities will be open throughout the event.
Aon Corporation, who has recently become the key sponsor for Manchester United, is providing the spots to the clinic participants, and will also have representatives on hand at the clinic.
“Aon is excited to have this opportunity to bring the Manchester United coaches to this clinic for these kids,” said Scott Gray, assistant vice president of Aon. “Park University is a great partner of Aon Corporation, and has graciously offered their facilities and staff to assist in making this a fantastic event for a group of kids to attend a once in a lifetime event. Julian Field is a perfect venue for the clinic, and we truly appreciate AD Claude English for opening up his facilities and providing the use of his staff to ensure its success.”
The clinic is part of an event-filled two days for Manchester United, which will wrap up its stay in Kansas City Sunday night at 5 p.m. by taking on the Kansas City Wizards. It will be the third of four matches in North America, three of which are in the United States.
“To be a part of something this big is an honor for Park University,” Park director of athletics Claude English said. “We have to first thank Aon for making an event like this possible for Park, and we also thank Manchester United for affording such an opportunity to Kansas City’s area youth.
“We’re honored that Julian Field was selected to host such an opportunity, and in addition to what this will do for area youth, it will be an excellent learning opportunity for our soccer programs.”
Park University representatives will also be on hand Saturday with information on the upcoming 2010 Park University men’s and women’s soccer seasons, which gets underway Aug. 21 against the University of Sioux Falls.
