The City of Platte City recently amended its marijuana codes to allow a 24-hour dispensary in the city.
At the Tuesday, Aug. 25 meeting of the board of aldermen, the city updated its marijuana regulations for the first time since recreational marijuana was legalized in 2022. The board also heard a presentation from the city’s only dispensary, the 816 Dispensary.
816 Dispensary opened in Platte City last year as the state’s first microdispensary, The program allows those from disadvantaged demographics to operate a small-scale dispensary, with specific restrictions on what products they can sell.
The city deleted definitions from its code about the medical marijuana program, which was approved by voters in 2018, replacing it with more broad terms regulating the operation of legal dispensaries within the city.
As part of this code update, the city struck a provision prohibiting the sale of marijuana between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.
Also at the meeting, the board approved the city’s property tax rate at .9926 per $100 assessed valuation, up from the current rate of .9678.
