According to court documents, another chamber employee approached police to report the thefts, providing records showing more than 90 misappropriated transactions. Guffey was hired in July 2025 as a program manager and had access to a debit card and checkbook for the chamber.

When interviewed by police, Guffey admitted she had purposefully and knowingly used funds from the chamber to cover “life expenses.” These expenses included the down payment and first month’s rent for a townhome, additional rent, cellular phone bills, groceries, miscellaneous expenses and the services of a financial company.

“I know why we’re in here... I unfortunately did use funds from the chamber,” Guffey told police, admitting she used the bank information from a check to make internet payments, used the debit card for transactions and made checks out to herself.

When asked if she had asked or was given permission to use any funds for personal reasons she said, “I did not, no.” Detectives clarified if she wrote checks to herself for personal reasons which she replied, “yes.” When asked if she had permission to do that, Kalynn Guffey said, “no.”

She was shown a preliminary list of unaccounted transactions. Guffey reviewed the list and claimed all but five transactions were for personal use. As the result of an audit, additional transactions were later discovered after the interview which amounted to over $32,000.00 in misappropriated funds.
