Highway N park plan approved

The Platte County Commission has accepted the Highway N Trailhead Park Master Plan.  The trailhead park will be located south of Platte City along Highway N, approximately ½ mile north of the Highway N and Highway D intersection.

The master planning process included extensive site analysis, stakeholder coordination, community engagement, concept development, and final plan refinement. The project began with a review of available background information, including topographic and boundary mapping, utility information, existing trail maps, and known site restrictions.

A project kickoff meeting was held on April 29, 2026 with the citizen advisory committee.  The committee met four time throughout the planning process.

Community input played an important role in shaping the master plan. On July 22, the county hosted a public engagement design workshop at the Platte County North Community Center, providing residents from surrounding neighborhoods and other active community members an opportunity to identify priorities and share ideas for desired park amenities.

The final plan envisions a new nature themed playground, expanded parking, bathrooms, multiple shelters, looped trails, natural habitat restoration, and a dog park.  The plan can be viewed at platteparks.com.

Commission Joe Vanover stated “The new park will be a major enhancement to the popular greenway and meeting place for all the neighborhoods along the Prairie Creek Greenway.”

Commissioner Allyson Berberich stated “Citizens really enjoy Platte County’s many trails and the Prairie Creek Greenway is one of the most popular trails in our system.  The Trailhead Park along the greenway will be a great enhancement.”

Presiding Commission Scott Fricker commented “Major trail overlay projects along the Prairie Creek Trail and the Southern Platte Pass Trail demonstrated a commitment to maintaining the existing network.”

The commissioners thanked the citizens advisory committee and the Platte County Park Board for the work of this plan.

The final master plan was presented to the Platte County Park Board in September 2026 before being brought before the County Commission for consideration.

On October 5, the Platte County Commission formally approved the master plan.

The approval provides the County with a framework for future development of the Highway N Trailhead Park and establishes a road map for implementing improvements as funding and project priorities allow.

Platte County Parks Director, Daniel Erickson stated “The next step is to finalize design plans and to construct Phase 1 of the plan in 2027.”
