Lady Trojans beat Platte County, Smithville

In an early season tri-meet, the Park Hill girls’ swimming team came out on top over Platte County and Smithville at the Platte County YMCA on Dec. 6.

In what was Park Hill’s first road competition and Platte County’s second home competition of the winter, the Lady Trojans came out on top with a score of 573. The Lady Pirates weren’t too far behind – finishing with 535 points – but the Lady Warriors were far behind, taking third place with 287 points.

Park Hill’s Andi Osborne helped lead the Lady Trojans to a triangular victory over Platte County and Smithville on Dec. 9. 

Park Hill earned some points early with two of the top-4 relays in the first event and four of the top-7 individuals in the second event. While Platte County’s 200-yard medley relay team of Madeleine Stone, Drew DeLay, Brooklynn Hays and Madeline Judy took first place with a time of 2:20.54, Park Hill had the third and fourth place teams.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Park Hill sophomore Ava Hughbanks won the race in 2:06.82, followed by Platte County’s Ireland Shank and Ashleigh Cruce in third and fourth places. Finishing in fifth to seventh places were Claire Conrad, Kendall Newton and Estelle Alexander for the Lady Trojans.

The Lady Pirates made up some ground in the next event – the 200-yard individual medley – with the top-2 finishers. Hays won it with a time of 2:20.33 and Stone was right behind her in 2:29.18.

Park Hill’s Avery Whalen claimed third with a time of 2:37.31. Teammates Karis Barton and Layla Nelson earned fourth and fifth places.

Smithville stole the first two places in the 50-yard freestyle followed by Platte County’s Lauren Beatty and Judy in the third and fourth spots in less than 28 seconds each. Brileigh Wilkens and Rosette Mormino took the next two places for Park Hill.

Hughbanks led a troop of Lady Trojans in the 100-yard butterfly with a second-place finish of 1:05.53. Ava Sullivan and Maddison Prater were in third and fourth places.

Hays and DeLay took the first two spots in the 100-yard freestyle for Platte County. Those two were joined by Stone and Judy in the 200-yard freestyle relay and won the race in 1:49.97.

DeLay also took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.05. Park Hill pulled away from Platte County late when it won the 500-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
