Platte County’s hunt for a conference title in girls volleyball is nearing its completion.
The Pirates are off to a 9-0 start with three matches remaining. They look to close it out with upcoming matches against Grain Valley (Oct. 6), Raytown (Oct. 8) and a home finale against Belton (Oct. 15).

Platte County have most recently won three straight conference matches in straight sets, including sweeps of Fort Osage, Truman and Fort Osage again.
Senior Emma Brinkman has become a formidable presence up front, blocking 46 attempts. The tandem of Miah Omoike and Kylie Hill have led up front as well with nearly a combined 400 kills. Ella Cruce has also had a standout season with 81 aces serving and 600 assists.
The Pirates’ postseason path won’t be an easy one out of Class 5 District 8, which includes reigning district champion Park Hill. Both sides met on Sept. 21, with Park Hill winning the five-setter inside Pirate Fieldhouse.
Platte County sits with an overall record of 15-7-2 ahead of matches with North Kansas City and Staley on Oct. 5. Their final non-conference test will come on Oct. 13 against Benton.
After falling in the first round of the same district last year, Platte County appears to be well-prepared to progress further this season. The Pirates’ dreams of a conference district double remain within reach.
