The Platte City Board of Aldermen has approved a resolution outsourcing trash and recycling services to Redgate Disposal for solid waste collection for the next three years.
Set to begin at the end of the month, Redgate will take over for the city, whose services have been irregular and fraught with problems for the past couple of years.
The agreement was unanimously approved by the board at its Tuesday, June 9 meeting. The city received proposals from five waste management companies, with Redgate offering the lowest bid at $20 per month for the first year of its contract. In year two, the price will go up to $20.60 and in year three the price will go to $21.22. Currently, the city charges $22 per month for trash and recycling.
Redgate has had the city in its sights for some time, as last year the Edgerton-based company presented a proposal to the city to take over trash services. After months of back-and-forth with the city continuing to maintain its failing trash and recycling trucks, the city finally moved forward with outsourcing.
New Mayor Amber Brune campaigned, in part, on taking care of the city’s trash collection problems.
