Platte City’s top administrator removed from office

After less than a year on the job, Platte City Administrator Marji Gehr was fired during a closed-session meeting of the Platte City Board of Aldermen last week.

At the Tuesday, Feb. 28 meeting, Gehr was let go on a unanimous vote. She had taken over the position from retiring city administrator DJ Gehrt in early July, although Gehrt had turned the reins over the Gehr for most daily operations several months prior due to Gehrt’s focus on finishing the new city hall building.

Chief of police Joe Wellington will act as city spokesman for the near term with plans for replacement of Gehr still up in the air. An effort to contact mayor Tony Paollilo for information was unsuccessful.
