Police investigate two fatality accidents

Platte County authorities are investigating two fatality accidents in the past week in the county. 

On Sunday, March 22 at about 4:20 a.m., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash on Highway 45 near Farley’s Main Street. 

The preliminary investigation of the crash indicates that a 2024 BMW M4 sedan was traveling south on Hwy. 45 when it left the roadway just south of  Main Street and overturned then came to rest top side up. The vehicle then caught on fire. 

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old male resident of Riverside, and three other teen-aged passengers received minor to severe injuries. A fourth passenger, an 18-year-old female resident of Kansas City, died at the scene.

The cause and circumstances leading to the motor vehicle crash remain under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team.  Hwy. 45 remained closed for approximately five hours during the on-scene investigation.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Riverside on Thursday, March 19. 

According to the highway patrol report, a 38-year-old man from Houston, Texas was walking along the southbound lanes of Highway 69 at Interstate 635 at around 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene. Riverside police as well as the highway patrol responded to the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead.  

The suspect vehicle may be at 2011-2014 Toyota 4Runner. The vehicle may have a missing passenger-side mirror or damage to the passenger-side headlight.
