A 17-year-old Staley High School student died last week in a crash when his motorcycle collided with a semi on Interstate 29.
Brody Schleuger died at the scene, according to Kansas City police. According to reports, on Wednesday, July 8, he was traveling south on I-29 on a Kawasaki Ninja at high speeds, weaving in and out of lanes and splitting lanes.
At around 4 p.m., he crashed into the back of an unloaded flatbed trailer being pulled by a Freightliner semi truck near Northwest 64th Street. Schleuger was reportedly ejected from the bike, which burst into flames on the highway. The driver of the semi was not hurt in the crash, which closed the southbound lanes of I-29 for several hours.
