The man who led police on a chase in Weston last week remains in custody on $100,000 cash-only bond.
Michael Hull, 37, is in the Platte County Detention Center, charged with fleeing a stop and causing physical injury for an incident involving Weston police on Friday, Sept. 5. Additional charges are likely pending related to the standoff on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Hull was taken into custody without further incident on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Hull was arraigned on Friday, Sept. 11 and pleaded not guilty. He was referred to the public defender and the case was continued until Tuesday, Sept. 22.

On Saturday, Sept. 5, Hull was stopped by Weston police in a blue 2003 Dodge Dakota on suspicion of involvement in a previous disturbance. The Weston officer observed the stock of a rifle protruding from behind the driver’s seat and knew Hull was a felon and not allowed to possess firearms. The officer partially opened the driver’s side door and reached for the firearm and Hull allegedly drove off at a high speed, catching the officer’s hand in the door. The officer sustained bruising to his hand. Police attempted to stop him but Hull fled. A warrant for Hull’s arrest was issued Friday.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, at about 4:30 a.m., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Weston Police Department on a suspicious party call around Highway 45 and Highway H. Based on description of the suspicious party it was believed to be Hull.
Responding officers and deputies began searching the area as sightings of an individual running from the area were reported by residents. Information came in that Hull was observed on a security camera and possibly had a firearm.
Due the search, the West Platte School District initially implemented a delayed start to the school day due to the proximity of the school to the search area. Due to the ongoing nature, the district later decided to cancel school for the day.
Hull had previously lived in a house on Cherry Street and there was a report that there was an open door at his former residence. The residence is currently unoccupied, and it was believed that Hull was hiding inside of the residence. A perimeter was set up around the residence, and a search warrant was obtained to enter the residence and search for him. Once the residence was searched it was found to be unoccupied and the area was cleared.
Information was received that Hull had fled the city limits of Weston and was possibly in the river bottoms south of the city. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team along with members of the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office and St. Joseph Police Department SWAT team began a ground search of the river bottoms area. At approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday the search for Hull was suspended due to the extreme heat exposure and the areas of heavy brush.
