Repeat sex offender headed for life in prison

A prior sex offender whose previous crime was not allowed as evidence was found guilty by a Platte County jury of repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl. Platte County authorities said Jason D. Wright, 40, of Edgerton will be sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of three counts of statutory sodomy.

“This defendant told the victim that no one would believe her if she came forward,” Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said. “He was proven wrong by the deputies who investigated this case, the prosecutors who tried it, and the 12 good men and women of the jury who gave the victim justice.”

During the three-day trial, the victim testified that Wright sexually abused her in his bedroom almost every day when she came home from school from the ages of 13 to 15. When she was 16, the defendant crept into her room at night and sexually abused her on two occasions. The victim said Wright would often put a blanket or pillow over her head while he abused her. The assaults lasted approximately 30 to 45 minutes. After the assaults, Wright would say to the victim, “Don’t tell anyone. If you do, no one will believe you. It will tear the family apart.”
