Time to get your home ready for winter

Snyder’s Plumbing and Heating will celebrate 50 years of doing business next year.Kenny Snyder started the HVAC business in Platte City in 1964. His son, Dean, has been working at the business professionally since 1984 and took over managing the business in 1994. Currently, Snyder’s has five employees and Dean’s mother, Joyce, works in the office a few days per week. Dean Snyder said while technology has made appliances such as furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters last longer, the business itself has not changed much the past several decades. “Things haven’t changed much — people still need their homes cooled down in the summer and heated in the winter,” he said. Snyder said appliances are more efficient now and rebate programs entice more consumers to go in that direction. But he also said many homeowners subscribe to the theory of owning a house for five to seven years and then moving on to another home.
