Park HIll School District hosted an outdoor event June 10 and 12 at Gerner Family Early Education Center in Kansas City for students to ‘cool down’ with lessons about water.

About 15 pre-K children attended the event on Friday, June 12. A sprinkler, water slide and water tanks were set up at spacious distances for the kids to cool off on a hot day.

Teachers encouraged the kids to explore each of the water activities and most of the children focused on taking turns on the water slide.

Students observed teachers dunking and floating different toys in the large water buckets.

They discussed the science of water, including water temperature, where water comes from, who drinks water, who lives in water and who needs water to survive.

Teachers provided different sizes of cups so the 3 and 4-year-old kids could use them to measure the water in the water tanks, helping the students to develop math concepts.

The activity was hosted on two days to allow more children to be able to attend the event with their recess partners.

The school ensured that students were observing social distancing and provided disinfection methods between sessions.Myles Perry.
