Holly Cayer has officially been certified by the Platte County Board of Elections and will appear on the Nov. 3 general election ballot as an Independent candidate for Platte County Collector of Revenue.
Cayer secured her place on the ballot after collecting 1,192 certified petition signatures, nearly twice the 626 signatures required to qualify.
“The petition process was a humbling and encouraging experience,” Cayer said in a press release issued this week. “People sought us out because they wanted the opportunity to sign and make their voices heard. We had meaningful conversations with citizens about the issues that matter most to them. The message I heard consistently was that people want a choice in their local elections. That is exactly why I worked so hard to return to the ballot – to give the people of Platte County a choice.”
Cayer said she brings extensive professional experience to the position. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Missouri Western State University, has 15 years of experience in the Platte County Collector’s Office, where she currently serves as Assistant Chief Deputy, and has an additional nine years of banking experience.
The responsibilities of the Collector’s Office are complex and require a thorough understanding of tax collection, disbursement, statutory requirements, and the needs of local taxing entities. Since 1982, the Platte County Collector has traditionally served as an employee of the office before being elected, reflecting the importance of experience and institutional knowledge in the position.
“The Collector’s position carries tremendous responsibility,” Cayer said. “The collector is personally responsible for more than $318 million in tax dollars, and that responsibility requires knowledge, experience, and accountability. I understand the work required to keep the office operating effectively and without disruption. Schools, cities, emergency services, and other taxing entities depend on the accurate and timely collection and disbursement of these funds.”
As Collector, Cayer says she will continue to modernize the office to make the tax collecting process as convenient and stress free as possible as well as prioritizing any new tax programs that pertain to the Collector’s Office.
She also plans to work cooperatively with other county offices to make these programs as straightforward and seamless as possible for taxpayers while ensuring the office operates in accordance with Missouri statutes.
“We need to remember that these offices are statute-driven, not politically driven,” Cayer said. “I will follow Missouri law and focus on the responsibilities entrusted to the Collector’s Office – primarily the accurate collection and disbursement of tax dollars. I’m not running to be a politician. I’m running to be a Collector who works for the people.”
Cayer says voters are unlikely to see her campaign taking a traditional door-to-door approach.
“I know how valuable family time is,” Cayer said. “As a wife and mother of two, I understand how important it is to respect people’s time at home.”
Instead, Cayer plans to connect with residents throughout the community by attending local events, festivals, and parades, volunteering, and speaking directly with Platte County citizens.
“I want to meet and visit with as many Platte County citizens as I can throughout this campaign,” Cayer said. “If you see me at a community event, please stop and say hello. I would love the opportunity to meet you, hear your concerns, and get to know you.”
Cayer encourages Platte County residents to participate in the Nov. 3 election and make their voices heard.
“Local elections matter, and every vote matters,” she said. “I am asking the people of Platte County for the opportunity to serve them as their next Collector of Revenue-vote Cayer for Collector.”
