Child molester sentenced

A Weatherby Lake man who sexually molested a 5-year old girl has been sentenced to 36 years in prison.

Nicholas Goss, 36, received the sentence from Circuit Judge Ann Hansbrough in the Platte County Circuit Court on Nov. 10 after pleading guilty in May.

“After this defendant committed unspeakable acts on this little child, she immediately told her caretakers what happened,” Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said, “I hope this sentence sends the message that we will not tolerate any instance of sexual abuse against a child in Platte County.”

After initially telling adults what happened, the child was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital for a sexual assault nursing examination. Synergy Services also conducted a child forensic interview.

When confronted with the allegations by a detective with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, Goss admitted to molesting the child. Goss pleaded guilty to two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree and one count of incest.

Prosecutors sought a total sentence of 40 years imprisonment, and Hansbrough ultimately sentenced the defendant to 36 years in prison. Goss must serve 30 years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole.

“This defendant will spend decades in prison for sexually abusing a child,” Zahnd said. “Children are our future, and it’s good when anyone who abuses a child forfeits their future.”

This case was investigated by the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Kaitlynn and Sydney Alizadeh and First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mark Gibson.
