The Park Hill girls golf team celebrated senior night in grand fashion with a tri victory against Park Hill South and Platte County on Sept. 17 at Tiffany Greens Golf Course.
The Trojans edged out the Panthers in a tight finish, narrowly defeating their district rival 164 to 166. Platte County finished third with a score of 200 on the par 36 course.
Park Hill senior Ruby Bell finished first in the meeting, shooting a 35 and scoring a 1-under par. After facing some troubles in holes 2-4, Bell finished her nine hole round strong by making two pars and scoring birdies on four of the nine holes to drop back under even on the eighth hole to secure first overall.
Bell was followed by fellow Park Hill senior Makenna Kincheloe and Park Hill South’s Kylie Ziller, who both shot a 39. Kincheloe finished 3-over par after a birdie on the first hole while Ziller found some steadiness towards the end of her day, scoring a birdie on the seventh hole and par on the eighth and ninth holes.
South’s next-highest finishers were Leah Steitz and Tyler Murphy, who shot a 41 and 42, respectively. Steitz scored a birdie on the second hole to aid a 5-over par finish while Murphy had five pars to finish at 6-over par.
Platte County’s highest scorer was Grace Handke, who tied with Park Hill’s Kyra Smail and Park Hill South’s Brooke Nichols in shooting a 44 to finish sixth overall. Handke had four birdies to finish at +8 on the day.
“We are steadily seeing improvements from our players,” Platte County head coach Trevor Short said about his team. “We are continually making great strides in the right direction.”
Following Handke, Platte County had Grace Gaspers shoot 50, Naomi Loehner shoot 53, Lila Sedlacek shoot 53, Ainsley Habel shoot 56 and Finnley Dougan shoot 58.
“We knew that this was going to be a tough event, but our focus is on our own improvement this year,” Short said. “The end results are great if it works out, but knowing that we are getting lower scores on a constant basis is the main goal for us at this time.”
All three schools are grouped into Class 4 District 4, which is slated for Oct. 13.
