Park Hill student accused of bringing gun to school out on bond

The 18-year-old Park Hill School District student accused of taking a loaded gun to school is now out on $10,000 bond.

Peebles

David Peebles was first jailed in the Platte County Detention Center on $100,000 cash-only bond, charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon. On Tuesday, Nov. 25, his bond was lowered to $10,000 with a 10 percent cash option. Bond was posted that day, with conditions. Peebles remains under pretrial supervision with electronic monitoring, no consumption of illegal substances or alcohol, no possession of any weapon, and he is not to enter the premises of any public school property. His case was continued to Jan. 13, 2026.

During a court appearance Monday, Peebles was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty.

“Bringing a gun to a school is a serious crime, and we will treat it as such,” said Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd. “Every student and parent needs to know that firearms do not belong at schools.”

According to court documents, at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, school administration at the LEAD Innovation Center notified the on-duty school resource officer of a report from a student stating another student had a firearm in his backpack. Peebles and his backpack were taken to the office, where a school administrator searched his pack and found a gun wrapped in a t-shirt. The deputy confiscated the firearm, a 9 mm hand gun loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition in the magazine. There was no bullet in the chamber.

Peebles was taken into custody and transported to the Platte County Detention Center, where he agreed to speak to police. Peebles said he was afraid of other students at school and was also afraid of the possibility of school shooters. He wanted to be able to defend himself. During the interview, he admitted to carrying the loaded gun in his backpack and said he knew the firearm was not allowed at school.
