The Platte County and Park Hill boys golf teams met at Shiloh Springs Golf Course on Wednesday, April 24.
Park Hill earned the victory on the par-34 course, shooting a team score of 142. Senior Zach Cato finished first overall, shooting a 34 for the Trojans, followed by Ethan Howell’s 35 score and John King’s 36.
While Platte County took the defeat, shooting a team score of 157, head coach Trevor Short was pleased with how his team performed.
“The team played pretty well today against a pretty tough team,” Short said. “We are seeing some more movement on the roster with a few younger players starting to work their way up.”
Some younger players include sophomore Brayden Renno, who finished second among Platte County with a 38 score, and freshman Jack Dillingham, who shot a 40 as the team’s third-best golfer. Pirate junior Braden Hendee was the best on the team, tying with Park Hill’s Gage Dorrell for fourth overall with a 37 score.
“We like seeing the competitiveness of the players pushing each other to keep working on their skills to become better players. We have all the ingredients to put together some quality numbers; we all need to be on the same day to accomplish that task,” Short said.
The Pirates and Trojans are coming down the final stretch of the season. Both teams will see each other again at the Kearney Invitational on April 28 and at the Liberty Invitational on May 2.
Platte County also has the Highway 92 Showdown at Paradise Pointe on April 30. The Pirates’ season will hit its peak at the conference tournament on Monday, May 5, at Hollow Creek in Pleasant Hill before the Class 4 District 4 Tournament on Wednesday, May 7, at Paradise Pointe in Smithville.
Park Hill also has the conference tournament at Hollow Creek on May 5 before their Class 5 District 4 Tournament at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs on Thursday, May 8.
