Pirates take second at conference golf

Platte County senior Parker Amos finished with 80 strokes to tie for sixth place in the Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division Meet at Hoot’s Hollow on May 1.

The Platte County boys’ golf team claimed second place in the Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division Meet at Hoot’s Hollow on May 1.

The Pirates had three all-conference golfers, along with two honorable mentions. Parker Amos tied for sixth place overall with 80 strokes.

“We knew going into the Conference tournament that Grain Valley would be tough to beat,” Platte County head golf coach Trevor Short said. “We had to keep our heads down and focus for the full 18 holes. The wind didn’t help much, but it did make for some interesting shots out on the course today.”

Josh Knickman was three strokes behind Amos, ending in seventh place. Braden Hendee was the final all-conference golfer for Platte County, tying for tenth place with 88 strokes.

Josh Gentilia was two strokes behind to fall out of the top-10 – being in a tie for eleventh place – to be an all-conference player. Jackson Gabbert shared that feat with one more stroke and a 13th place finish.

“This was a great experience for some of our younger players that should help guide them in future tournaments.  We will turn our focus to the district tournament now. We feel that we can get from the tee to the green fine, we just need to dial in our speed on putting,” Short said.

Platte County wrapped up regular season play with the second-place finish at conference. The Pirates will prepare for the postseason, starting with districts at Paradise Pointe on May 8.
