Platte County sitting comfortable at 7-1

PLATTE CITY – Coming off the first loss of the season, the Platte County boys’ tennis team (7-1) bounced back with an 8-1 win over Staley (0-5) on April 10.

PLATTE CITY – Coming off the first loss of the season, the Platte County boys’ tennis team (7-1) bounced back with an 8-1 win over Staley (0-5) on April 10.

A season ago, Platte County beat Park Hill for the first time since 2018 but was unable to repeat history despite being 5-0 at the time. Park Hill (9-0-1) beat Platte County 6-3 on April 8.

The Pirates nearly swept the Falcons in the next match they played. The only loss was in doubles play when Jack Bralley and Aaron Vaughn came up short 8-6 against Peyton Burch and Baron Jenne.

Gavin Nichols and Hayden Cook won their doubles match 8-2, while Daniel Bunge and Quentin Miller won 8-1. Nichols was the only Pirate to sweep a Falcon in singles play.

Paul Havemier and Bunge won their singles matches 8-5 and Cook survived with an 8-6 win. Vaughn came out with an 8-2 triumph and Bralley didn’t finish his singles match before the Pirates won 8-1.

Platte County kept the strong play going against Kearney (0-3) with a sweep on April 11 to move to 7-1 on the year. The Pirates will host Oak Park (1-2) on April 17.
