The City of Riverside approved at $72 million budget at the meeting of the Board of Aldermen last week.
City staff presented an update on the budget, stating there were only minor changes from a draft budget reviewed by the board earlier in the month. Some projects that were originally expected to wrap up in 2026, such as construction of a new fire station, will roll over into 2027, affecting the budget. Work at E.H. Young Riverfront Park will also stretch into 2027.
Director of Public Works Tom Wooddell reported to the board on a bridge closure impacting residents. The Burlington Creek Bridge on the Missouri Riverfront Trail is closed after flooding caused a washout. City staff are working with Platte County Parks and Recreation to move forward with engineering and possible reconstruction.
The board also approved an amendment to city code to establish special trail hours following special events on a portion of the Missouri Riverfront Trail near Morton Amphitheater. The change will allow traffic on the trail during hours when it would normally be closed to expedite crowd disbursement after special events at the new amphitheater.
Also at the meeting, the board authorized an agreement with the Riverside-Quindaro Bend Levee District for the Missouri River North Trail project, which is just getting started. The levee board will review plans made by the city, with their engineering costs to review any plans covered by the city.
