With the school year wrapped, area districts are now looking ahead to summer school, which is set to kick off in the coming weeks.
For Platte County R-3, summer school will be held from 8 a.m. to noon June 1-29 at Pathfinder Elementary School for the southern elementary enrollment area and at Siegrist Elementary School for northern elementary enrollment area students. Middle and high school students will attend summer school at Platte City Middle School.
The summer school program provides an experience that is relevant, rigorous, and engaging, based on individual learner needs, in a safe and caring environment, according to the district. Expanded community partnerships provide students with real-world learning experiences to reinforce classroom learning.
Elementary experiences are designed around fun-filled themes like Sweet Treats, Vibrant Colors, Ocean Adventures, and Outer Space Explorations. From hands-on activities to engaging lessons, students will explore, learn, and create in a dynamic and playful learning environment.
Middle school students may select an exploratory experience featuring real-world learning and innovation with partners such as Make48, the Missouri Department of Conservation and more. A hunter education program is also offered.
For high school students, traditional courses, credit recovery courses, and driver’s education are available.
In the Park Hill School District, elementary and middle school students will attend school from June 1-26. High school summer school is offered in two sessions, with the first running from May 27 through June 11 and session two running from June 12 to June 30. Programs will occur across the district at the elementary level, at Plaza and Lakeview middle schools and high school at the LEAD Innovation Studio. High school courses include ACT prep, American history, creative writing, design and drawing, drama, business and marketing, finance, psychology and more.
In West Platte, summer school runs from June 1-17. North Platte’s summer school program is already in session, running May 19 through June 17.
