Trail partnership approved

Platte County has entered into an agreement with the City of Kansas City for development of the Route 152 Trail in Mark McHenry Park.

Commissioners approved the order at the Tuesday, May 19 administrative meeting of the Platte County Commission.

Platte County was awarded a $2.7 million federal sub-allocated surface transportation program/carbon reduction program grant by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) to construction a portion of the Route 152 trail within Mark McHenry Park, which is located just southwest of Kansas City International Airport. Platte County will provide about $1 million in matching funds for the project through the parks and recreation and stormwater sales tax.

The City of Kansas City will maintain the trail once construction is complete, with the supporting documentation pointing out several successful partnerships between the city and county, including Tiffany Hills Park and Aquatic Center, Line Creek Trail and Platte Purchase Park.

Several appointments were also approved at the meeting, including the appointment of Nancy Felix and Jeff Kingsley to the Board of Services, Frank Pendleton to the Riverside TIF Commission and Platte County IDA and Adam Zink to the Platte County Sewer Board.
