Cavitt-Wells, Wicks lead 6 all-state soccer picks for Park Hill South

One of the best seasons in program history produced all-state honors for six Park Hill South players. The Class 4 Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association teams included goalkeeper Evan Morrow, forward Tyler Pisoni, midfielders Carson Cavitt-Wells and Ryan DiBernardo, and defenders

Jacob Wicks and Seth Hudson. The selections were an even split between first-time juniors and repeat seniors.

Park Hill South went 24-4 this season, ending with a 1-0 loss to Rockhurst in a Class 4 semifinal that stopped a 21-match win streak. The Panthers set records for goals scored in a season (112) and fewest goals conceded (11) and finished No. 10 in the final MSHSSCA Class 4 poll after being No. 7 in 2014.

An honorable mention pick a year ago, Cavitt-Wells led a pair of first-team picks as the best creator for a balanced offense. He led Park Hill South with 16 assists to go with 15 goals — tied with Danny Gunderson for second on the team.

A junior, Wicks also made the first team after helping the Panthers record 19 shutouts. He finished with three goals and one assist from his right back spot.

A leg injury for Hudson, a mainstay in Park Hill South’s central defense, likely cost him a second straight selection to the first team. He made the second team after playing in the final 14 games, 12 of which were shutouts.

Hudson finished with three goals and two assists.

Morrow ended up on the second team for a second straight season with 16½ shutouts, allowing only nine goals in 25 games while making 110 saves. The Panthers had a 22-3 record in his 25 starts.

Pisoni, a junior and Park Hill South’s third second-team pick, led the balanced offense in scoring with a team-high 22 goals. He also tied for third in assists with 11, giving him a team-high 55 points.

DiBernardo, the third and final junior, made the honorable mention list with nine goals and 13 assists — second behind Cavitt-Wells.

In Class 3, Platte County sophomore midfielder Chandler Peterson made the honorable mention list with 28 goals and 18 assists. He teamed with senior forward Baylor Cox to provide most of the offense in the Pirates’ 17-7-1 season that ended with a 2-1 loss to Smithville in the Class 3 District 16 title game.

Peterson scored in seven straight games at one point and tallied a season-high six in a win at Winnetonka, helping him earn co-Suburban Conference Blue Division offensive player of the year honors.
