Perennial Platte City mayors to face off again, filings close around the County

Another chapter in the Platte City top office trade-off saga has begun with the filing this week of former mayor Dave Brooks for election to the seat now occupied by Mayor Frank Offutt.

In 2008, Offutt won the seat from incumbent Brooks by a two-to-one margin, but that was hardly the first time the two mayors had met at the ballot box. After serving two terms as an alderman, Offutt ran for mayor in 1998 and defeated two other candidates, including Brooks. In 2002, Brooks came out on top, serving six years as mayor before his defeat by Offutt in 2008.

As of Jan. 17, filing has closed in most municipal and education offices. The following is a review of the positions up for election and who has filed, as of press time:
