Jury trial set for father, son accused of sex crimes

July 2, 2013 Citizen Staff Report

Anthony Paden Darren Paden

A well-known Dearborn man and his son, who are both accused of felony sex crimes, will stand trial before a Platte County jury in 2014.

Platte County Judge Lee Hull last week set a Jan. 21, 2014 trial date for the two men. Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd explained that while, technically, the two men have the same trial date, they will not be tried simultaneously.

“The cases are not being joined for trial,” Zahnd said. “Darren Paden’s case has the first setting on that docket, meaning it will be tried that date, and Anthony Paden’s trial would be continued to a later date. However, if Darren Paden’s trial did not happen on that date for some reason, Anthony Paden’s case would be tried instead.”

Platte County authorities allege that Darren Paden, 50, and his son Anthony Paden, 25, each had deviate sexual intercourse with the same minor, who was less than 14 years old at the time the alleged crimes were committed.
