Platte County defeated Summit Christian — a third-place finisher in the Class 2’s Missouri State Volleyball Championships a season ago — in the championship match of the Platte County Invitational. Platte County outside hitter Maren Mair finished with 12 kills in the 25-12, 25-20 win against the Eagles. In all, the senior recorded 44 kills in the Pirates’ six matches, while setter Kenedy Knox tallied a team-high 73 total assists and libero Teryn Scott collected 55 digs. Platte County went 5-0-1 including pool play to keep its unbeaten record intact. “Our overall passing on serve receive is improving,” Platte County coach Jan Patterson said. “I felt like we did a good job scoring and being able to run our offense out of serve receive. Our very aggressive serving kept our opponents off balance and out of system most of the day. We may not have served ace serves, but they were having a hard time setting up and running their offense.” Platte County won its home tournament for the third straight year. Liberty 2, Platte County 0 The Pirates lost their first match off the year Sept. 22 when they hosted Liberty, a fellow Class 4 District 16 opponent. The Blue Jays defeated the Pirates 2-0 in the district semifinals last year on the way to the state playoffs. Platte County dropped to 12-1-1 on the year in the 23-25, 19-25 defeat. Mair finished with a team-high six kills and cracked the century mark, now totaling 102 on the season. The Pirates played at Grandview on Tuesday and visits Raytown South on Sept. 25. North Platte 2, Hamilton 0 The Panthers coasted to a 25-17, 25-3 win over the Hornets Sept. 18 at Hamilton, Mo. North Platte junior Holly Sanders finished with a team-high 14 kills, while enior Katelin Dillee served up 17 assists. The Panthers improved to 16-3 on the year and 2-0 in KCI Conference play. They return to action Sept. 25 when they host Lawson. West Platte 2, Lathrop 1 The Bluejays earned a three-set win Sept. 18 when they hosted Lathrop. Sadie Kleman finished with 11 digs to lead the defensive effort for West Platte in the 25-12, 20-25, 25-14 victory. Grethchen Hiatt finished with nine kills, while Kleman’s six aces helped the Bluejays’ offensive threat. The win moves West Platte to 10-4 on the year and 2-0 in the KCI. West Platte traveled to Lone Jack Sept. 23 but the result was not available at The Citizen’s deadline. The Bluejays return to action when they host Mid-Buchanan on Sept. 25
