Park Hill South's Royle wins another state tennis medal

Adele Royle advanced to the seventh-place match in the Class 2 Missouri State Tennis Championships singles bracket for a second straight year, finishing her accomplished career with another state medal. The Park Hill South senior went 2-3 this past weekend at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo., opening with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Kickapoo’s Amanda Schmidt. Her only other win came in the afternoon on Oct. 17 in the consolation quarterfinals — a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Cor Jesu Academy’s Katherine Dolan — to advance into the medal rounds.

Royle lost her final two matches in straight sets and came in eighth after placing seventh in 2013. She qualified for state all four years, the final three times in singles after going as part of a doubles team in 2011.

Playing as the No. 1 again all season, Royle also helped Park Hill South win the Class 2 District 15 championship and reach the team state tournament for the eighth straight season. The Panthers lost 5-0 in sectional play against Liberty.

Royle also won the District 15 singles championship for a third straight season.
