Rhodes claims another title for West Platte wrestling

Justin Rhodes beat Maysville’s Reid Steiner by decision for the third time this season, winning the 152-pound bracket at the Lathrop Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24. Now 38-0 on the season, Rhodes — a junior — won the title match between the two 4-0 on Saturday. He also won 2-1 against Steiner at a dual earlier this month and 1-0 in December’s Battle of Lexington tournament.

West Platte ended up 11th out of 17 teams with 99 points despite bringing only six wrestlers. Devin Driskell (20-17) finished third in his pool at 113, going 3-2 overall, while Dalton Larison (16-16) was fourth at 195. He went 2-1 in pool wrestling with a loss to South Harrison’s Kasey McFall (a first-period pin) before losing his semifinal by technical fall.

Polo’s Brandon Richardson pinned Larison 16 seconds into the third-place match.
