September 23, 2015 Citizen Staff Report

Kansas City (Mo.) Police Department officers found a man lying in a pool of his own blood earlier this month, apparently injured while breaking into a local water park. Kevin Williams

According to court documents, Kevin Williams of Kansas City, Mo. was charged with one felony count of burglary after allegedly causing damage while burglarizing the Springs Aquatic Center at 9400 N. Congress Ave. He was found in the parking lot with injuries when officers responded to an alarm call at about 3:26 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Charges were filed Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Williams, 32, allegedly told officers that he was a junkie and had broken into the facility. Employees of The Springs reported nothing stolen, and the gates at the entrance were still secure.

Officers found a storage area on the northwest side of the main building had been broken into with a window shattered and an adjacent door slightly ajar. The office inside had been ransacked, and the alarm system on the wall had inner contents torn away.

A large landscaping brick was found on the floor with blood, presumably left by the suspect evident on a desk, the floor and doors. Another window inside the business had also been shattered.

Employees estimated damages and cleanup at about $5,000. Williams first went to a local hospital before remaining in custody. He’s currently at the Platte County Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 cash-only bond.
