Blue Jays and Panthers recognized for individual campaigns on the gridiron

After all the hard work put into the hot, summer days of the off-season and the cold, fall nights of the regular season under the Friday night lights, the KCI Conference has honored a select group of Panthers and Blue Jays with postseason awards.

West Platte’s Lamar Henderson was selected to the KCI All-Conference 1st teams on both sides of the ball this fall. Henderson was chosen as an offensive tackle and interior defensive lineman when the Blue Jay finished the 2021 season with a team-high 36 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

When the regular season ended, the West Platte football team was in third place in the conference and the North Platte football team was in eighth place in the conference. Regardless of the team standings, 10 Blue Jays and four Panthers were honored for their individual accomplishments they had on the football field this year.

For West Platte, Trent Taylor and Lamar Henderson were the top performers for the Blue Jays this fall as the senior duo was selected to the all-conference 1st teams on both sides of the ball. Taylor was honored as a wide receiver and cornerback, while Henderson was chosen as an offensive tackle and interior defensive lineman.

Taylor had 14 receptions for 330 yards and one touchdown on offense with 31 tackles and four interceptions on defense. Henderson finished the regular season with a team-high 36 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

Cameron Williams was the last Blue Jay who made the 1st team all-conference as the senior was selected as a running back on offense and made the 2nd team as a defensive end. The senior caused havoc for KCI opponents this season as Williams finished with 702 rushing yards and nine scores, along with 30 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

West Platte senior guard Shane Schmidt and sophomore center Logan Lawson were both selected to the all-conference 2nd team as offensive linemen. Senior Tanner Rowe was an honorable mention as a tight end, safety and punter, while Blue Jay kicker Guglielmo Forti was also a KCI Honorable Mention.

For the Blue Jay linebackers, Zane Truxal made the 2nd team and Emmet Sullivan was an honorable mention. Truxal ended the season with 62 tackles, eight tackles for loss and one sack, while Sullivan ended with 33 tackles, nine tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.

Senior Mason Montez missed a few games with an injury, but still found a way to be selected as a KCI Honorable Mention as a cornerback. Montez finished the regular season with 20.5 sacks, four tackles for loss and an interception.

For North Platte, there were four Panthers selected as KCI Honorable Mentions: Kaden Mullendore, Riley Hyde, Liam Servaes and Chance Garber. Hyde impressed on both sides of the ball when the Panther was an honorable mention as a defensive end and offensive tackle.

Mullendore was selected as a safety and Garber was chosen as a linebacker. Servaes was the top Panther running back this fall as he had 124 rush attempts for 515 yards and two scores.
