Blue Jays clip the Bulldogs

The West Platte football team took down South Harrison 44-6 as the Blue Jays have won their first two games for the first time since 2014.

It was a tight contest in the opening 24 minutes as the Blue Jays were up 13-6 at the break. West Platte came out of the locker room locked and loaded as it scored 28 unanswered points all in the third quarter.

Blue Jay outside linebacker Emmet Sullivan returned an interception for a touchdown as West Platte’s defense was all over the place. The Blue Jays only allowed the Bulldogs to 56 yards of offense in the second half and forced a total of four turnovers - two interceptions and two fumbles.

The West Platte quarterback only completed three total passes, one of which resulted in a 28-yard touchdown pass to Trent Taylor. The Blue Jays offense relied heavily on the running game as they rushed for 336 yards on the night.

McClain Zendejas was the leading rusher for West Platte as the junior ended with 120 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown. Taylor ended with 110 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Dominic Williams finished with 87 rushing yards and a touchdown while Montez also got in the end zone on the ground and had 12 total rushing yards in addition to his 50 passing yards.

Special teams also got involved for the Blue Jays as Dublin Carnahan converted on a 29-yard field goal. Taylor ended with 60 total kick returning yards although the Bulldogs only kicked off twice.

West Platte has started off hot, only allowing 13 points in the opening two contests of the fall. Both weeks its defense has caused havoc,  especially in the second half.

The Blue Jays will start conference play this week as every opponent left in the regular season are KCI Conference foes. They will start off by heading to Plattsburg this Friday to take on the 0-2 Tigers.
