Bridge work will cause closures

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews will be making the following traffic changes as part of the construction of the new Buck O’Neil Bridge over the Missouri River. All work is weather permitting.

Although located in Clay County, the bridge is a busy commuter route for traffic in and out of Platte County.

Crews will be setting girders requiring the closure of the following ramps and/or lanes from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, June 13.

The new Missouri River Bridge will cost close to $220 million dollars to construct and expected to be completed by 2024. The new structure will be reasonably maintained, while providing a safe, connected, and accessible transportation facility that improves system performance.

The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.

I-29 CLOSURE

Due to inclement weather, MoDOT has rescheduled it plans to close the ramp from southbound Interstate 29 to northbound Interstate 35 for shoulder repair work.

This work will now be beginning at 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, June 9. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes during this time. All work is weather permitting.
