Platte County Citizen co-owner Will Johnson applies paint to the newspaper’s new office building, located at 812 Third St. in Platte City. The organization plans to move into the new location by the end of September.

The Platte County Citizen will move its newsroom and office to 812 Third St. near downtown Platte City, the company announced Wednesday, leaving behind the office space next to Dollar General on Branch Street.

When some renovations are completed The Citizen will make the move, expected to be completed by mid-September.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to create new offices that will incorporate the needs of our news organization as well as our printing department,” said Ross Martin, publisher of The Citizen. “We are also pleased that we will be centrally located near downtown.”

Martin said that the newspaper, a weekly paper with the highest paid circulation in Platte County, was also in the process of recruiting an additional reporter to bring its newsgathering team up to strength as well as a graphic designer to help in the printing department.

“Readers, advertisers and print customers will be able to pop into the office to chat to reporters or place ads at our new location with plenty of parking,” he said. “The new location will also allow us to expand our operations and continue our existing business relationships.”
