Death investigation under way near Parkville

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office had an eventful holiday weekend, according to a report given to commissioner Tuesday morning.

At the July 6 administrative session, held at the Platte County Resource Center, Major Erik Holland updated commissioners on activities over the long holiday weekend, which included a death investigation, injuries to deputies and dozens of arrests in unrelated incidents.

Holland said 96 tickets, mostly for hazardous moving violations, were issued over the five-day period beginning July 1 and 54 arrests were made. Two deputies were assaulted while dealing with disturbances and suffered minor injuries while apprehending suspects resisting arrest. A third deputy was involved in a minor car accident.

The death of a woman in the Misty Woods subdivision is also under investigation. According to police, the victim fell onto a broken bottle, cutting into her neck. Holland said no arrests have been made and those present at the residence have cooperated with authorities.

Another incident involving the sexual assault of a child is also under investigation, with no additional details available as of press time.

“It was a very busy weekend, but at the end of it everyone was safe,” Holland told commissioners.

Across the state, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol, troopers worked 312 traffic crashes, which included 124 injuries and seven fatalities, none of which were in the Kansas City area. Troopers also made 144 DWI arrests and 81 drug arrests over the holiday weekend.
