Four area wrestler place at KC Stampede

Five of the area’s wrestling teams competed at the regional KC Stampede Classic, which featured teams from as far away as Texas.



The event began on Friday, Dec. 20, at Bartle Hall in downtown Kansas City, MO, and finished on Saturday, Dec. 21.



Both Platte County and Park Hill’s wrestling teams and Park Hill South’s girls’ team competed in the large showcase event that featured 24 mats and 32 wrestler brackets in each weight division.



The best finish of all of the area’s wrestlers was Park Hill’s Allison Gronier, who finished runner-up in the girls’ 125-pound bracket. Gronier lost the championship match by an 8-1 decision to Violet De La Cruz of Conroe Woodlands College Park, TX. Gronier received a bye in the opening round but then won her first three matches by pinfall. Gronier beat Crystal Loera of Garden City, KS, in the semifinal match in a 9-2 decision.



Park Hill South’s Lucia Henriquez, 145 pounds, and Temperance Lowe, 125 pounds, also earned a trip to the medal stand with a seventh-place finish in their weight divisions. Henriquez beat Aryana Roberts of Belton in the seventh-place medal match, and Lowe beat Daisy Yost of Yukon, OK, in the seventh-place medal match. Both ladies won by pinfall.



Mason Brayfield

Park Hill wrestler Mason Brayfield, 113 pounds, had the best finish of boys’ wrestlers with a fifth-place finish in the bracket with a win over Garden City, KS, wrestler Braydon Pacheco. Brayfield has an 11-2 record on the season.

Platte County: Cade Crawford, 106 pounds, went 1-2 in matches; Jaxson Shute, 120 pounds, went 4-2 in matches and went as far as the quarterfinals; Jackson Woolsey, 138 pounds, went 0-2 in matches; Grant Fadler, 144 pounds went 1-2 in matches; Evan MacCuish, 150 pounds, lost his first match but won the next six bouts before losing in round six of the consolation bracket; Brock Myers, 157 pounds, went 0-2 in his matches; Justice Martin, 165 pounds, went 0-2 in his matches; Zach Olson, 175 pounds, went 0-2 in his matches; and Max Shuey, 190 pounds, went 0-2 in his matches.

Park Hill: Caden Brayfield, 106 pounds, went 3-2 in his matches including winning his first two in the championship bracket; Erik Egstad, 120 pounds, went 3-2 in his matches including wining the first two in the championship bracket; Chase Johnson, 126 pounds, went 0-2 in his matches; Kennan Beatty, 132 pounds, went 1-2 in his matches; Robby Hanna-White, 138 pounds, went 2-2 in his matches; Davion Seymour, 144 pounds, went 0-2 in his matches; William Vande Ven, 150 pounds, went 1-2 in his matches; Grant Armentrout, 157 pounds, went 2-2 in his matches; Sammy Mormino, 165 pounds, went 3-2 in his matches including winning his first two in the championship bracket; Elijah Franco, 175 pounds, went 1-2 in his matches; Louis Van Batavia, 215 pounds, lost his first match but then won four straight bouts before losing in consolation round five; Aiden Donar, 285 pounds, went 0-2 in his matches.

Platte County: Harper Golden, 100 pounds, went 2-2 in her matches; Karrington Friddell, 105 pounds, went 2-2 in her matches; Bella Dean, 110 pounds, went 2-2 in her matches; Charley Sims, 115 pounds, lost her first match but won four straight bouts before losing in the consolation round six; Anna Wiesehan, 120 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Taylore Lavery 125 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Annabel Beeman, 130 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Giada Cucchiara, 135 pounds, went 4-2 in her matches including winning four straight in the consolation round before losing in round six; Ava Blankenship, 145 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Madelynn Nichols, 155 pounds, went 2-2 in her matches; Alivia Juarez, 170 pounds, went 1-2 in her matches; Nicole Fernandez, 190 pounds, went 2-2 in her matches; and Madeleine Stone, 235 pounds, won her first two matches before falling in the quarterfinals.






Park Hill: Alice Keefe, 105 pounds, went 2-2 in her matches; Ava Myers, 110 pounds, won her first two matches before falling in the quarterfinals; Peighton Whitley, 120 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Reilly Kastner, 130 pounds, went 2-2 in her matches; Stella Grothaus, 135 pounds, went 1-2 in her matches; Jane Oakley, 170 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; and Crystal Tachibmai, 235 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches.






Park Hill South: Zella Gray, 110 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Abigail Monaco, 115 pounds, lost her opening match but then won three straight bouts before losing in consolation round six; Dillan Piersel, 120 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Kamyla Chacon, 135 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Marlie McNerney, 155 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Xitaly Rosas, 170 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches; Hailey Clingan, 190 pounds, went 0-2 in her matches.
