It was a good night for Platte County football teams looking to advance in the Missouri State High School playoffs last Friday, Nov. 8, with Platte County R-3, West Platte, and North Platte all getting big wins.

The Pirates hosted the St. Joseph Central Indians in the Class 5 District 8 semifinal and sent them back to St. Joe bruised and beaten after a 50-0 clobbering.

All of the scoring in the game took place in the first half as the Pirates scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and 29 points in the second quarter, including a safety and an interception returned 36 yards for a touchdown by Pirates’ ball hawk Trevor Hay.

Junior quarterback Rocco Marriott got the Pirates on the board first with a rushing touchdown. Marriott rushed for two touchdowns and completed 15 of 19 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns.

As a team, the Pirates only collected 37 yards on the ground but got rushing touchdowns from Dayton Doll and Adam Gisler. Tres Baskerville led receivers with five catches for 58 yards. Doll had two catches for 46 yards, and Jack Utz had two catches for 42 yards and a touchdown. Ty Christopher had a touchdown reception.

The Pirates will take on a 10-1 St. Pius X team this Friday at home in the district championship.

The West Platte Blue Jays and North Platte Panthers will be playing in the Class 1 District 4 semifinals this Friday after getting quarterfinal wins last Friday, Nov. 8. If both teams win, it will set up a rematch for a district championship.

West Platte, the No. 4 seed, got a home win over Polo 49-19, while the Panthers, the No. 7 seed, pulled off a big upset by beating the No. 2 seed Milan 26-6 on the road. It was North Platte’s second win on the season.

West Platte will travel to top seed Penney this Friday, while the Panthers will travel to No. 3 seed Putnam County. The Jays have won three in a row and already have an overtime road win over the Hornets in Week 3.
