KCI Conference volleyball roundup: Undefeated starts for Panthers, Bluejays

It was a clean sweep for West Platte over Orrick during its match on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Orrick, Mo.

The Bluejays won the opening-set 25-17 and had a tougher time in the second-set but still recorded a 25-21 victory in completing the sweep.

The Bluejays offense received big contributions from Faith Stevens who led the way with 13 assists, Lara Lieske had seven kills and also tied for the team lead with three aces, along with Tori Norman.

Stevens and Lieske had a block apiece tying for the team lead and Zoe Buckler, Daire Stelljes and Lieske had three digs a piece in the Bluejays win.

North Platte 2, South Holt 1

After dropping the second set, 27-25, North Platte rallied at home to win the final set against South Holt on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Dearborn.

The Panthers won 25-16 in the final set, after picking up a 25-22 win in the opening set.

North Platte already exceeded last year’s win total one week into the season and the best start since going 12-0 to start the 2014 campaign.

Frankie Davis led the Panthers with nine kills. Maddy Cheadle had eight assists, while McKenzie Brokchoff had seven, while leading the team with 10 digs. Bri Bridger had four blocks.

Nodaway-Holt triangular

North Platte 2, South Harrison 0

North Platte 2, Nodaway-Holt 0

North Platte opened the season by beating South Harrison and Nodaway-Holt on Wednesday, Aug. 29 in Graham, Mo.

The Panthers won 25-9 and 25-11 against South Harrison. McKenzie Brockhoff led North Platte with two aces and one dig, while Frankie Davis had two kills.

In match two, North Platte bested Nodaway-Holt, 25-20 and 25-21. Brockhoff had six kills, while Davis had four. Maddy Cheadle led the team with 12 assists. Emily Westwood had three digs and two blocks. Amanda Ochoa had four aces. Bri Bridger led North Platte with three blocks.

West Platte 2, Mound City 0

West Platte won in straight sets against Mound City on Tuesday, Aug. 28 in Weston, Mo.

The Bluejays upended Mound City 25-19 in the first set and flew away with the second set 25-10.

The Bluejays were led by Zoe Buckler who contributed three assists, Daire Stelljes had four kills and Lara Lieske contributed 7 aces.

The Bluejays defense got contributions from Faith Stevens and Samantha Rotterman, who each recorded a block and Stevens joined Buckler by having a dig.
