KCI girls basketball roundup: North Platte beats West Platte

North Platte used a strong second half to get past KCI rival West Platte 50-33 on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The Panthers, who led 17-15 at halftime, raced past the Bluejays with a 33-18 second half. 

McKenzie Brockhoff led North Platte with 15 points. Grace Rice added 13 points and Josie Roach chipped in 11.

Lea Moose scored 13 points to lead West Platte, who led 8-6 after the first quarter.

The Panthers scored 14 in the third quarter and 19 in the final frame, besting the Bluejays’ 7 and 11.

Opening round pairings are out for the upcoming Class 2 District 15 tournament, which will take place at North Platte High School. 

West Platte opens with Lone Jack at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, and North Plate takes on Lutheran at 7:30 p.m.

West Platte, who fell to 1-17 with a 56-23 loss to Penney on Friday, Feb. 8, hosted Mid-Buchanan on Tuesday night, but the result was unavailable by press time. The Bluejays are back in action at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at East Buchanan.

Mid-Buchanan 47, North Platte 35

The Panthers couldn’t quite pull off the upset of Mid-Buchanan in a KCI contest on Friday, Feb. 8 in Faucett.

North Platte (12-11) led 13-12 after the fourth quarter. But the Dragons, who are receiving votes in the Class 2 state poll, put together a 16-5 quarter to take a 28-18 halftime lead. 

The Panthers registered eight and nine points in the final two frames. They trailed 39-26 after the third quarter.

Brockhoff led North Platte with 15 points, while Rice added 10 points. Kelsey Stout led Mid-Buchanan with 15 points and a pair of 3s.
