Lady Panthers snap Eagles 8-game winning streak, defeat Bishop LeBlond at 12 Courts of Christmas

Park Hill senior Kennedy Townsend, above, finished with 24 points, along with eight rebounds and two assists in the Trojans 58-51 win over Bishop LeBlond at the 12 Courts of Christmas on Dec. 22.

The Trojans became the Grinch who stole the 12 Courts of Christmas when the Park Hill girls’ basketball team (7-3) ended the Eagles’ undefeated record, defeating Bishop LeBlond (8-1) 58-51 at Hy-Vee Arena on Dec. 22.

LeBlond entered the contest with eight wins and no losses, but the Trojans didn’t let that faze them as Park Hill was in control for most of the contest. Park Hill led by six points at the end of the first and second quarters before extending its lead to 51-42 entering the final frame.

The Eagles’ comeback bid in the fourth quarter came up short and the Trojans were able to come out on top in the shoot-out. The Park Hill senior duo of Kennedy Townsend and Darcy Cato combined for 11 of the team’s 17 steals on the night.

Townsend converted on two of the Trojans’ four 3-pointers to give her a team-high 24 points, along with eight rebounds and two assists. Amaya Blake shot 55 percent from the field and ended with 14 points, three rebounds and four assists.
