Lady Pirates compete at district wrestling

Platte County’s Charlie Sims was eliminated from the Class 2 District 4 Tournament. play with back-to-back losses on Feb. 9.

PLATTE CITY – Hosting the Class 2 District 4 Girls’ Wrestling Tournament, Platte County placed ninth and had two state qualifiers walk away from the competitive weekend on Feb. 10.

Senior EmmaLyn Burnett (125) will have a shot at redemption and one last hoorah after losing two of her three matches at state a season ago. She’s sitting comfortable with a 36-9 record ahead of the trek to Mizzou Arena.

Burnett won three of her four matches at districts, losing in the semifinals and fighting her way to the third-place match. There, she came away with a 6-4 decision victory over Kylie Dunn from Fort Osage.

In her first year wrestling, Madeleine Stone also took third place at districts, albeit in the 235-weight class. Stone lost her first match, then followed that up with four pins in a row, capped off with a 1:24 win by fall over Arika Miller (Oak Park).

Nicole Fernandez opened up the weekend with a pair of wins by fall before the 190-pounder lost her last two matches. Her season ended with 24 wins and 16 losses.

Charley Sims missed out on a state berth, coming up shy in the semifinals and consolation semifinals. The sophomore 115-pounder earned seven points on the weekend.

Anna Wiesehan (130) wrapped up her sophomore season with 17 wins and 24 losses, coming up short in her first and last match at districts and earning six points. Annabel Beeman produced the same amount of points in the 135-weight class, finishing her junior campaign with two district wins and hoping to use that as momentum into her senior season next year.

Adrianna Ciccarelli (110) added four points, pinning Jillian Woodall from Lee`s Summit North in 1:37 for her only win in three tries at districts. Mila Cucchiara had the same performance in the 140-weight class, with her sole win being a 52-second pin against Xiomara Hewitt (Oak Park).
