Luetkemeyer sworn into office as state senator

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, took the oath of office Jan. 9 during the opening session of Missouri’s 100th General Assembly at the State Capitol in Jefferson City.

Senator Luetkemeyer represents Missouri’s 34th Senatorial District, which includes Platte and Buchanan counties.

“It was a humbling experience to stand in the beautiful chamber of the Missouri Senate, raise my right hand and swear to perform my duty and support the Constitution of the state of Missouri,” Sen. Luetkemeyer said. “I'm blessed beyond measure to have the opportunity to represent the citizens of Buchanan and Platte Counties.”

Senator Luetkemeyer joins the 34-member Missouri Senate and will serve a four-year term in office. The First Regular Session of the 100th General Assembly will continue through May 17.

Originally from southeast Missouri, Sen. Luetkemeyer is an attorney from Platte County. Previously, Sen. Luetkemeyer served as a White House Intern and was appointed to the University of Missouri Board of Curators while attending the University of Missouri School of Law. Senator Luetkemeyer also clerked for a Missouri Supreme Court judge before seeking public office.

Prior to opening day, Sen. Luetkemeyer submitted four pre-filed bills for consideration during the 2019 session. Most notably, Sen. Luetkemeyer has proposed the Narcotics Control Act, which would create a prescription drug monitoring program in Missouri. Currently, Missouri is the only state to not maintain a database of narcotic prescriptions.
