Old Chicago restaurant coming to Platte County

August 24, 2018 Cody Thorn

The Shoal Creek Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom is shown on Monday, Aug. 13. The franchise will have a new location located along Ambassador Drive — in one of the old Ambassador Buildings — in Platte County inside a Hilton Garden Inn that is currently under construction and planned to open in 2019.

The hotel boom by the Kansas City International Airport continues with two construction projects underway and one of them will add a popular restaurant inside — Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom.

Both hotels, a SpringHill Suites by Marriott and Hilton Garden Inn, have expected completion dates in 2019.

The addition of another restaurant in the Northland is the fifth in the Kansas City market, along with Independence and Shoal Creek on the Missouri side and Overland Park and Olathe on the Kansas side.

Old Chicago signed a franchise development agreement with KMG Hotels to open 10 new restaurants and the KCI Hilton Garden Inn will be the first to open.

KMG Hotels owners Sanjay and Jay Koshiya signed an agreement in April to bring Old Chicago locations to Kansas City and St. Louis.

“We are very excited to be partnering with such a great franchise that like us, believe in serving local communities,” Sanjay Koshiya told FoodNewsFeed.com. “We researched several other franchises and we felt Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom far surpassed the others in their operations, loyalty program, market and local crafted feel. Partnering with a brand like OC adds value to our investment and to our guests by having a great brand on our hotel property.”

The restaurant will be 5,000 square feet and will be on the ground floor of the Hilton Garden Inn, which is being constructed at one of the old Ambassador Buildings — one of the first buildings constructed near KCI.

The 103-room hotel, which will feature a 2,500 square foot conference room, is slated to open between February and March 2019.

The North Kansas City-based KMG also operates hotels in Joplin, Kansas City, North Kansas City and Kansas (Emporia, Leavenworth, Topeka, Olathe and Lenexa).

The SpringHill Suites is a $12 million project that will be located at 8300 N. Stoddard Avenue, south of QuikTrip near Interstate 29/NW Barry Road. This hotel is slated to open in the first quarter of 2019, according to information provided by Falcon Hospitality Group — based in Independence, Mo.

The hotel will add 25 jobs — full- or part-time — and will have 96 rooms.

The hotel will feature a fitness center that is more than 600 square feet, as well as indoor pool with a waterfall wall, outdoor space with a fire pit and 966 square feet of meeting space, which could hold up to 60 people.

There are more than 300 SpringHill Suites across the United States. This is one of three new hotels run by Falcon Hospitality Group that are under construction. The others are in Olathe and Gardner, Kan.

FHG operates one hotel in Independence and four in Bowling Green, Ky.
