One injured in Platte City shooting

May 22, 2019 Citizen Staff Report

Platte City police are investigating an alleged robbery and shooting that occurred last week in Riverview Park.

At about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, a young man approached the home of Jerry Keuhn — a former Citizen reporter — and knocked on the window to his teenaged son’s room, claiming he’d been robbed and shot in the hand in Riverview Park, located off Mill Street.

Keuhn called 911 and the family attempted to help the man on their front porch. The victim — who does not live in Platte City — said he had been parked in the park in his own vehicle when he was approached by people in a vehicle claiming to need a jump start.

An occupant in the vehicle allegedly robbed the victim, took his cellular phone and shot him in the hand.

The victim walked out of the park and approached the first house he’d seen on O’Rourke Drive for help.

According to the Platte City Police Department, the incident is under investigation and the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
