Panthers snap losing skid, beat Trojans

KANSAS CITY – It’s been an uncharacteristic winter for the Park Hill South boys’ basketball team (8-14), which was riding a 7-game losing skid and had a 1-9 record in its last 10 games prior to meeting up with Park Hill on Feb. 9.

The Trojans took care of business at Park Hill South with a 6-point win earlier this year and the Panthers did the same on the road against the rival. Colby Kiedrowski had a big scoring night and Park Hill South came out on top, 65-43.

Kiedrowski not only erupted for 25 points, but he also did it at an efficient rate, making 61.5 percent of his shots. He also had five rebounds and five steals.

Carson Bjorn scored a career-high and made three 3-pointers for the second straight game, ending with 11 points and only missing one shot from behind the arc. Cooper Oathout had 10 points and Michael Good had nine points to add to the offense that produced its most points scored since the New Year.

Park Hill has been without Gavin Schaag – who leads the team with 36 made 3-pointers and averages 11.9 points – for seven games now and its offense struggled without him. Cameron Jones was the only one to score in double figures, ending with 11 points.

Isaiah Caston tied his career-high in steals with three and had nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from deep. Akoi Akoi also scored nine points and Desire Tonye-Nyemeck had five points.

Park Hill South is going to host Staley (17-5) on Feb. 13, looking for redemption after losing 61-56 on Jan. 24. Park Hill heads to Lee’s Summit North (13-9) on Feb. 16
