Park Hill redistricting maps released

November 20, 2024 Jeanette Browning Faubion

A final proposed redistricting plan was presented to the Park Hill Board of Education last week, with a vote scheduled for December.

At the Thursday, Nov. 14 meeting of the Board of Education, Kelly Wachel, chief communications officer, and Dr. Paul Kelly, redistricting advisory committee chair and assistant superintendent for business and technology, updated the board and community on the redistricting process currently underway due to the opening of Angeline Washington Elementary in 2025.

Since June, the district has been working through the introduction of the process, the creation of metrics and criteria to support the process, creating the Redistricting Advisory Team, meeting with the advisory team, working to create initial scenarios and then providing initial redistricting scenarios to the community for input.

Several community open houses were held and maps were placed online with outlets for feedback from parents and patrons.

The recommended map submitted last week is the result of the redistricting committee’s work, including public feedback, and includes considerations for direct feeder patterns, enrollment balance, socioeconomic balance, transportation distance and safety, maintaining neighborhoods and minimal attendance area changes.

The Board of Education will consider final approval at its Thursday, Dec. 12 meeting.
