Park Hill South girls soccer goes 2-1 in Ozark Invitational

Park Hill South won back-to-back games Saturday, April 8 to take fifth place in the Ozark Invitational over the weekend.

Bouncing back from a first round loss to Pattonville, the Panthers were dominant in a 6-0 victory against Osage before scoring once in each half to beat Northwest (Cedar Hill) 2-0 in the finale. Seven different players scored on the afternoon.

Lia Fricke, Marquese Oder, Kallen Mazeitis and Ryanne Serrone-Brown all scored in the first half against Osage to give Park Hill South 4-0 lead. Macie Bolger, who assisted on the goals for Oder and Mazeitis in the first half, added the Panthers’ fifth in the 53rd minute on a second assist from Lexi Maddox.

Oder set up Taylor Evans for the final goal in the 65th minute. Brooke Montgomery recorded the shutout for Park Hill South.

Against Northwest, Park Hill South took a 1-0 lead into halftime despite playing into a stiff wind. Oder’s dribbling set her up to fire a pass to Bolger, who finished the play for her second goal in two games.

Aubree Koren scored the second and final goal 5 minutes into the second half, collecting a loose ball and firing a shot past an out of position goalkeeper. Evans and Montgomery combined on the shutout.

On Friday, April 7, Pattonville took an early lead on a breakaway and held the advantage until the early part of the second half. Maddox took a throw-in and dribbled to the endline, beating the goalkeeper to the near post with a surprise shot.

Pattonville’s game-winner came in the 68th minute on a corner kick Park Hill South failed to clear.

OTHER GAMES

Liberty North 4, Park Hill South 1

The Panthers went into the tournament off of a frustrating loss to Liberty North in Suburban Conference Red Division play Thursday, April 6 at Park Hill District Soccer Complex in Kansas City, Mo.

Park Hill South (3-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when Serrone-Brown turned in a Kate Eischens corner kick. The lead appeared ready to hold going into halftime until the head official whistled a foul on the Panthers as time expired then awarded a penalty kick to the Eagles after consulting with the linesman.

Sidney Ewing converted the penalty in the 40th minute for Liberty North, which went into halftime with a tie.

Liberty North added goals in the 51st minute, 59th minute and 61st minute to pull away. Park Hill South dropped to 1-2 in Red Division play with the loss.

Platte County 3, St. Joseph Central 0

All three goals for the Pirates came after halftime on Thursday, April 6 in St. Joseph, Mo.

Platte County sophomore forward Destinee Smith broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute, and junior midfielder Hanna Hall added the second 3 minutes later. Brittney Alvarado added her first goal of the season in the 71st minute to finish the scoring.

The lone assist went to Alexis Guillory. 

Platte County (6-2) ran its win streak to six straight with a 10-0 Suburban Conference Blue Division victory over Raytown South on Monday, April 10 in Raytown, Mo. The Pirates scored five goals in each half and improved to 4-0 in league play.
