Pirates sending 3 to state golf championship

Platte County will send three golfers to the state championship for the first time since 2014.

The Pirates took three to the Class 3 Sectional 4 meet on Monday, May 6 at the Excelsior Springs Golf Course and all three shot low enough to advance to the state championships slated for May 13-14 in Columbia, Mo.

“It was an exciting day for the Platte County golf team,” Pirates coach Trevor Short said. “We knew it was going to be close with the scores but not as close as what it turned out to be. The boys worked hard all season putting in extra time and accomplished a major goal that they set for themselves earlier this year.”

Logan Hessemyer will go to state for the third straight year after shooting an 11-over 83 and taking 10th place. Both Blake Minyard and Brady Wright shot 89 to earn the final qualifying spots to Columbia.

Minyard and Wright will be first-time qualifiers for the Pirates.

In 2014, the Pirates took Matt Madill, Chase Beamer and Nick Bartelli to the state meet.
