Platte County senior Sisely Mitchell broke the program record in the 800 with a time of 2:16.18 en route to winning the individual title at the Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division Track and Field Meet on May 3.

PLATTE CITY – It took two postponements over a course of 72 hours for the Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division Track and Field Meet and Platte County took the crown.

The meet was originally scheduled to take place at Platte County High School on May 1, but was rescheduled for April 30 due to an anticipated storm. A majority of the events finished before a lightning delay postponed it once again, finishing up on May 3.

The 300-meter hurdles, 800, 200, 2-mile and 4x400 were the running events that took place, along with boys’ discuss. When the day was over, Platte County swept the White Division.

Platte County did some damage in the long-distance on both sides – including two first-place finishes in the 4x800 – with Sisely Mitchell coming away with the most hardware. The senior took first place in all three individual races she ran in.

In the mile, Mitchell won with a time of 5:30.53, followed immediately by Carmen Gentilia in 5:51.79. Mitchell kept the dominance going in the 800, setting the school record in 2:16.18 and notching another conference title on her belt.

That success translated in the 300 and Filger earned another individual conference title in 48.94 seconds. Benninghoff ended in second place in 52.82 seconds.

The Platte County boys nearly had three all-conference 110-meter hurdlers as well led by Jack Johnson who was a conference champion with a time of 15.64 seconds before taking second place in the 300 with a time of 41.17 seconds. In the 110, Isaiah Seymour claimed third place in 16.33 seconds and Maurice Bass missed out on all-conference status by two places and 0.75 seconds with a time of 17.08 seconds.
